This is a Butch Hall wood flute, eastern red cedar, signed by Brulé. Butch Hall flutes are made from exquisite, top quality, eastern red (aromatic) cedar, walnut and cherry woods and use the superior one piece drilled construction method. This gives a more solid flute, without any delamination concerns regarding the two pieces flute face. Drilling is also very accurate within +/- .002 inch. That’s half the thickness of a dollar bill! It also makes for a prettier flute, without the glue lines. All concert flutes also have a precision nest under the bird. The nest enhances the performance by giving you a really alive present voice that can handle big breath extremes. It’s really hard to over blow these flutes even with a heavy vibrato. These flutes use an extended range pentatonic tuning. This is sometimes called a Mode 1-Mode 4 tuning. They have a total of 15 notes, covering an octave plus a minor third. They also have a 12 tone chromatic octave within the minor pentatonic. Butch Hall flutes have a hand-rubbed finish that includes four hand sandings, four coats of finish (inside and out) and a final steel wool rub. This process takes over four weeks. You’ll feel and see the difference our finishing effort makes.
